Estrutura geral da psicologia em Tomás de Aquino : das paixões à plenitude da alma

Abstract

Resumo: O presente trabalho possui como objetivo a análise descritiva da obra de Tomás de Aquino e, a partir do exame do seu pensamento, a estruturação e sistematização de uma ciência psicológica como pretendida pelo filósofo escolástico. Para isso, adotou-se como método o exame filosófico das mais importantes obras de Tomás de Aquino que versam sobre o tema, com especial enfoque na Suma Teológica e nos Comentários a Ética a Nicômaco, e de Aristóteles, com especial interesse pela Ética a Nicômaco, além do estudo de diferentes análises realizadas por seus principais comentadores contemporâneos. Para a elaboração do presente estudo, foram abordados os temas da alma, dos diferentes aspectos da vida sensitiva da alma humana, especialmente as paixões da alma, do intelecto e da vontade e, sobretudo, da ética, entendida como a prática efetiva dentro da psicologia tomasiana. Em determinamos momentos, foi dispensada certa atenção ao contraste entre o entendimento tomista dos conceitos aqui analisados e a psicologia na contemporaneidade. Após o estudo realizado, constatou-se a presença, no pensamento de Tomás de Aquino, de uma sofisticada compreensão psicológica acerca do homem, em especial no que diz respeito à centralidade que é conferida à inteligência e à vontade como faculdades principais e mais elevadas da alma humana, e às quais se ordena a vida afetiva, que é calcada, sobretudo, no fenômeno das paixões da alma, resultando na formação de um caráter virtuoso e saudável.

Abstract: The objective of the present work is the descriptive analysis of the work of Thomas Aquinas and, based on the examination of his thought, the structuring and systematization of a psychological science as intended by the scholastic philosopher. To this end, the method adopted was the philosophical examination of the most important works of Thomas Aquinas that deal with the subject, with a special focus on the Summa Theologiae and the Commentaries on Nicomachean Ethics, and Aristotle, with special interest in Nicomachean Ethics, in addition to the study of different analyzes carried out by its main contemporary commentators. For the preparation of the present study, the themes of the soul, the different aspects of the sensitive life of the human soul, especially the passions of the soul, the intellect and the will and, above all, ethics, understood as the effective practice within thomistic psychology, were addressed. At certain times, some attention was paid to the contrast between the thomistic understanding of the concepts analyzed here and contemporary psychology. After the study carried out, it was verified the presence, in the thought of Thomas Aquinas, of a sophisticated psychological understanding about man, especially with regard to the centrality that is given to intelligence and will as the main and highest faculties of the human soul, and to which the affective life is ordered, which is based, above all, on the phenomenon of the passions of the soul, resulting in the formation of a virtuous and healthy character.
