Abstract: This research presents a detailed study of the morphology of adult in both sexes, involving head, thorax, abdomen, and appendix. It also includes a geographical distribution and a bibliographical review of the south Brazilian species of the Morphinae subfamily (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae), as mentioned below : - Morpho helenor violaceus Fruhstorfer, 1912 - Morpho helenor paulista Fruhstorfer, 1907 - Morpho helenor achillaena (Huebner, 1823) - Iphimedeia hercules (Dal man,1883) - Iphixibia anaxibia (Esper, 1798) - Cytheritis portis thamyris (Felder & Felder, 1867) - Cytheritis aega (Huebner, 1822) - Fessonia catenaria (Perry, 1811) - Fessonia epistrophus (Fabricius, 1796) (= F. laertes (Drury, 1782)). - Grasseia menelaus nestira (Huebner, 1821) The subspecies M. helenor paulista and M. helenor achillaena have presented a great similarly with M. helenor violaceus and the species F. epistrophus with F. catenaria, in this study the drawings of morphology are not included. Until the last review, Le Moult & Real (1962-1963), all the species mentioned belonged to the genre Morpho with eight subgenres. The six subgenres studied in this research were considered as genres.
