Helvétius e Diderot sobre o desenvolvimento humano

Abstract

Resumo: O estudo tematiza a querela entre Claude-Adrien Helvétius (1715–1771) e Dennis Diderot (1713–1784), centrando-se nas aproximações e nos afastamentos entre suas teses sobre natureza e sociedade. A questão que nos motiva é: qual é o limite — se houver — da influência do ambiente e da sociedade no desenvolvimento do indivíduo para os autores, que pode ser identificado na Refutação de Helvétius? Quais são as consequências dele para a sociedade no que se refere aos princípios da educação? Para isso, abordaremos temas que perpassam a filosofia natural, tais como a matéria e a sensibilidade, o desenvolvimento moral e cognitivo, o interesse e as paixões, e, por fim, a proposta educacional dos autores. Valemo-nos de outros textos de Diderot e de Helvétius como auxiliares no mapeamento da questão.

Abstract: The theses focuses on the quarrel between Claude-Adrien Helvétius (1715–1771) and Dennis Diderot (1713–1784), focusing on the similarities and differences between their theses on nature and society. The question that motivates us is: what is the limit of the influence of the environment and society on the development of the individual for the authors, that can be identified in the Refutation of Helvétius? What are the consequences of this for society in terms of the principles of education? To do this, we will address themes that permeate natural philosophy, such as matter and sensitivity, moral and cognitive development, interest and passions, and, finally, the authors’ educational proposal. Other texts by Diderot and Helvétius will be used as guide.
