Abstract: Well-child care manuals played an important role in the education of Brazilian mothers and future mothers (especially those from the wealthier social class) who had guidance in several areas: feeding, main hygiene care for the baby, main childhood diseases and aspects related to the behavior and education of children. The "Psychological Care of Infant and Child" (Watson & Watson, 1928), the first book on Behaviorism translated into Brazilian Portuguese, published in the country in 1934 and in 1941, was about raising children. This research aims to evaluate the reception of "Psychological Care" translations in Brazil and the impact that the book had on Brazilian well-child care in the first half of the 20th century. The research was executed in two parts. In the first, we present a historical analysis of the translation emergence context as well as some characteristics of the translated text. Social conditions responsible for the development of well-child care, changes in the Brazilian publishing market resulting from the 1929 crisis and the establishment of a culture of parenting seem to have promoted investment in the translation of the book and its dissemination in the country. Despite the privileged position of this translation for the dissemination of Behaviorism in Brazil problems in the final text and occasional critical assessments by the writer of the introduction and translation notes seem to have delivered a book less behaviorist than its original. In the second part, we evaluated whether there was - and what was it - the impact of the "Psychological care" translation in mid-20th century well-child care brazilian manuals in Brazil. We identified that, despite the problems found in the book translation and the criticisms made by the introduction's writer, the behaviorist concepts and terms in the Watson's book were influential in well-child care manuals in Brazil between the 1930s and 1960s, in particular in those who addressed psychological and behavioral aspects of raising children.
