Associação entre zumbido somatossensorial e difunção temporomandibular

Abstract

Resumo : O zumbido é a percepção do som sem a presença de estímulos sonoros externos, ele afeta entre 10 e 17% da população mundial e é muito comum na clínica de DTM. O objetivo dessa revisão de literatura é apresentar conceitos, critérios de diagnóstico e tratamentos para o zumbido somatossensorial para que os cirurgiões dentistas estejam aptos para tratar seus pacientes. O zumbido somatossensorial é um subtipo de zumbido em que o sistema somatossensorial tem influência no zumbido do paciente. Isso ocorre pois há pontos de convergência neuronal entre as vias auditivas e somatossensoriais e, dessa maneira, os estímulos de uma via podem influenciar na outra. Sendo assim, o zumbido somatossensorial pode possuir uma forte associação com a DTM, sendo imprescindível para os cirurgiões dentistas o conhecimento de como lidar com os pacientes com essa condição. Atualmente existem critérios de diagnóstico definidos e a abordagem desses pacientes deve ser feita de forma multidisciplinar. Inicialmente o paciente deve ser avaliado por um médico otorrinolaringologosta e se DTM e/ou bruxismo estiverem presentes junto com o zumbido, devem ser tratados para tais condições por um cirurgião dentista.

Abstract : Tinnitus is the perception of sound without the presence of any external sound stimulus, it affects between 10 and 17% of the population worldwide and is specially common on the TMD clinic. The objective of this literature review is to show concepts, diagnostic criteria and treatments for the somatosensory tinnitus, so dentists will be more prepared to treat their patients. Somatosensory tinnitus is a subtype of tinnitus where the somatosensory system has influence over the patient’s tinnitus. This occurs because there are neural convergence points between the auditory and the somatosensory system and, thus, the stimulus of one system may affect the other. Therefore, the somatosensory tinnitus may have a strong association with TMD, being essencial for dentists the knowledge of how to treat patients with this condition. Currently there are diagnostic criteria and the treatment of these patients must be done with a multidisciplinary approach. Initially the patient must be evaluated by a otolaryngologist doctor and if TMD and/or bruxism are present with the tinnitus, they must be treated for these conditions by a dentist.
