Abstract: Art, a fundamentally human experience, continues to generate discussions and promote debates throughout history. Psychology and philosophy, for dealing with human issues, also address this problem. In the philosophical field, the French phenomenology of Merleau-Ponty and Mikel Dufrenne, which understands art as a form of expression and artistic creation as a way for an existing being to respond to the world that presents itself, leads psychology to think about the aesthetic experience, an artist's place in the world and the role of art itself. It remains essential to phenomenologically-based psychology to consider that the expression and response produced by the artist in her or his creation always germinate in the body. It is also noteworthy that in some arts, the artistic production takes place literally in the body itself: this is what happens in theater. Therefore, on the edge of three fields of knowledge - arts, philosophy and psychology - this study aimed to understand the experience of being a theater actress, to investigate how artistic activity expresses her way of being in the world, in addition to investigating the meaning, for the actress, the role of her art in the world and the relationships between artistic making and the meaning of life itself. The path used to reach these objectives was qualitative research, from a phenomenological-hermeneutic perspective, as suggested by van Manen. To this end, a case study was carried out regarding the description of an actress' experience, obtained through an open interview whose triggering question was "what is it like for you to be an actress?". From the data collected and during result analysis, which was based on the phenomenology of Merleau-Ponty and Mikel Dufrenne, three themes related to the experience emerged. Two of them were divided into sub-themes, namely: 1. being an actress as a condition of being, 1.1. being an actress as being a theater, 1.2. being an actress as a destination, freedom and situation; 2. being an actress as an expressive power, 2.1. the body as an expressive power, 2.2. being an actress as a way of being in the world, a lifestyle brand; 3. (not) being an actress outside the theater - conflict between theater and real life. It was concluded that being a theater actress leads to a fundamental intertwining between life and profession; therefore, being an actress proved to be a meaning and a way of existing in the world. The specificity of this action is related to the fact that the body itself also becomes a tool, a place where art itself happens and the means that enables it. As existence only occurs through the body, experiencing life as an actress is inseparable from unfolding one's own being in the world as an existing being entity.
