Palavras-chaves: Dom Dinis, trovadorismo galego-português, identidade cultural Abstract: The Portuguese cultural identity is strictly related to the strong passionality transmitted, above all, by the Literature that consecrated the saudade as a common place of the Portuguese being that when launching itself to the world through the navigations, left its land and its people with that feeling that unites presence and absence. The thesis started with an instigating questioning about the moment of Portuguese literature in which it is possible to point out the starting point of this cultural identification. For that, the Galician-Portuguese troubadourism was analyzed through the cantigas of King Dom Dinis, which is still considered a landmark for the Portuguese political and cultural constitution. In this way, it was tried to identify in its songs elements that can be understood as the foundations of the feeling of the Portuguese identity. As a research methodology, a table was created that aggregates the compositions of Dom Dinis around similar themes. As the songs are complex, they were not circumscribed in only one motive, as there is a correlation between different subjects. Thus, the work presented here developed from the findings and discoveries verified by the methodology of selection of specific themes of the songs. Similar systematizations were already developed by other researchers, however, it was preferred to start from an organization that met the specific objectives of this thesis, specifically aimed at establishing the relationship between the feeling of longing and the definition of Portuguese being in the medieval period in the Dom Dinis' songs. This hypothesis was not confirmed in the way it was considered at the beginning of the research, one that saudade does not appear explicitly in the songs. However, it is present, correlated with other elements that establish a connection that sustain the autonomy of the Portuguese culture in the medieval period that are presented in this study. As mentioned, the present academic work is based on the methodology used that contributes to the reading and joint understanding of Dom Dinis' compositions, culminating in the discovery of different elements and perceptions about medieval society and about the Galician-Portuguese troubadours, resulting in the recognition of his poetic conscience that is intimately linked to the foundation of Portuguese autonomy, both politically and culturally.
