Considerações sobre a noção de verdade em Descartes

Abstract

Resumo: Este trabalho se divide em três pontos principais: explicação da definição de verdade apresentada por Descartes em carta a Mersenne; investigação da relação entre conhecimentos verdadeiros e critério de verdade; crítica à leitura de que a verdade é entendida como coerência nas Meditações. Defende-se que a explicação do que é a verdade pertence à natureza simples e, mais especificamente, às noções comuns. Ao investigar a relação entre conhecimentos verdadeiros e critério de verdade, assume-se que a partir do conhecimento das verdades particulares é formulado o critério de verdade; dado isso, apresenta-se uma resposta ao problema da circularidade. Na medida em que se critica a leitura de que a verdade, nas Meditações, é entendida como coerência, argumenta-se que tal leitura contraria a tese das ideias eternas e imutáveis, e, como consequência, da veracidade divina.

Abstract: This work is divided into three main points: explanation of the truth definition presented by Descartes in a letter to Mersenne; investigation of the relation between knowledge and truth criterion; criticism to the reading that truth is understood as coherence in the Meditations. It is argued that the explanation of what is the truth belongs to the simple natures and, more specifically, to the common notions. By investigating the relation between true knowledge and truth criterion, it is assumed that is from the knowledge of the particular truths that is formulated the truth criterion; that being said, it presents an answer to the circularity problem. Once it criticizes in the Meditations that the reading of what is the truth is understood as coherence, it argues that such interpretation contradicts the eternal and immutable idea thesis, and, as a consequence, the divine truth.
