a Ilha do Mel.
As correntes analisadas neste período
variaram de -110 cm s-1 até 170 cm s-1.

including tidal plains, rock coasts, marisms, tide channels and mangroves, of with
performance is influenced by its hydrodynamics. The PEC has two main junctions
with the ocean whose are called North and South, according to its geographical
position. The present study refers to Galheta Channel’s region, more specific at a
cross estuary section between Ponta do Poço and Mel’s island. The objective of this
study is to describe the hydrographics and hydrodynamics characteristics of the
south inlet of Paranaguá Estuarine Complex, during a spring and a neap tide cycle in
the summer of 2008. To collect this physics parameters two surveys were made:
February 14/15th of 2008, referring to neap tide; and February 21/22th of 2008, related
to the spring tide. To measure the currents it was used the ADP (Acoustic Doppler
Profile) of SonTek and the temperature, salinity and density data were acquired with
a current meters and CTD S4 InterOcean. The results obtained during the neap tide
survey showed a big stratification of the water column according to the tide period,
with a salinity difference between the bottom and the surface reaching 7.6 g kg-1. In
relation to the currents in this period, it was observed a variation of -90 cm s-1 during
the flood-tide and 105 cm s-1 during the ebb-tide. During the max and min of tides it
was observed a bi-directional flux well formatted. On the spring tide survey, the
stratification was not very defined because of turbulent processes created by the high
intensity of the tidal currents. The currents analyzed during this period varied from -
110 cm s-1 to 170 cm s-1.
