Abstract: In this work, we provide a detailed analysis of the 1928 Dirac equation, which predicted, for the first time, the existence of antimatter. We explore its derivation from the relativistic energy of a free particle and discuss the results for the wave function, delving into the concept of spinors and the Dirac sea theory. We conclude that the wave function derived from the Dirac equation has four components: two related to the spin of the electron and two corresponding to the spin possibilities of the positron. We observe that, unlike traditional quantum mechanics formalisms, the concept of spin naturally arises from the Dirac equation, and resolves issues related to the probability density and the interpretation of negative energy solutions found in the Klein-Gordon equation. Furthermore, we demonstrate its covariance under Lorentz transformations and highlight its significance within the context of quantum field theory, particularly when analyzing the Lagrangian of quantum electrodynamics, which describes interactions between electromagnetic and spinorial fields
