Abstract: The search for strategies that offer greater profits and sustainable competitive advantages has been the managerial focus of companies. In pursuit of this strategy, many theories and empirical studies that demonstrate its application in the business environment have been reformulated over time. From the convergence in the relationship between strategy and structure and with the objective of studying how these elements are interconnected, the Strategic Cost Management (SCM) emerged in the mid-1980s. Its purpose was to evaluate, based on an organization's cost survey, the best strategic options that could be adopted. Such strategies would be formulated aiming at the managerial focus of obtaining greater profits and competitive advantages. Based on the theoretical foundation that SCM subsidizes the strategic decision-making process based on the company's cost information, this work developed a unique and empirical case study that aimed to verify if the implementation of a unit cost variable management based on the assumptions that directing costing would help in the strategic decision-making process of a small restaurant. In order to answer the research problem defined by "Can the SCM concepts be applied empirically in an MSME?", the general objective of this study was to evaluate, through the development of a single case study, the relationship between the Cost Management, Strategic Cost Management and Strategic Management of an MSME with the purpose of understanding how SCM helps in the strategic decision of the business. Among the main findings, it can be understood that the literature has not yet presented a consensus regarding what could support and formulate the concept of SCM, nor on how to measure its practice. However, the analyzed corpus identified a theoretical aspect for the delimitation of the SCM based on authors from the 1990s. In the empirical perspective, this work showed the potential of combining cost mapping, cost management and strategic implementation as resources of the SCM in a small company, arguing that the concepts of the SCM can be applied to an MSME.
