O problema dos universais : o regresso de Russell e o nominalismo de semelhança de Rodriguez-Pereyra

Abstract

Resumo: O argumento de Russell (1912) contra as teorias nominalistas, conhecido como "Regresso de Semelhança" [Resemblance Regress], gerou e tem gerado grandes discussões filosóficas principalmente no campo da ontologia e semântica. Sobre isso, uma teoria contemporânea tem se destacado. Trata-se da teoria nominalista de semelhança do filósofo Rodriguez-Pereyra (2002). Esta dissertação tem como objetivo (i) apresentar aspectos sobre o problema dos universais: o que é o problema dos universais; a distinção entre particulares e universais; o que está em disputa na discussão entre realistas e nominalistas; mas, sobretudo, (ii) apresentar e explorar a teoria realista de Russell, tentar entender como ele constrói seu argumento defendendo uma ontologia dos universais e como o mesmo acaba sendo também uma defesa contra o nominalismo de semelhança. Por fim (iii) apresentar a teoria nominalista de semelhança de Rodriguez-Pereyra tendo em vista a resposta que ele oferece ao regresso de Russell, quais são os pontos que devem ser explorados para entender como ele responde a tal regresso. Abstract: Russell's argument (1912) against nominalists theories know by the name of "Resemblance Regress" has been given great philosophical discussions mostly in the fields of ontology and semantic. Upon it one contemporary theory contrasts among others. It is the Rodriguez-Pereyra's Resemblance Nominalism (2002). This thesis has (i) the purpose to draw some respects about the problem of universals: what is the problem of universals; the distinction of particulars and universals, what is in the dispute in the discussion between realists and nominalists; but above all (ii) bring foward and explore the Russell's realist theorie, trying to understand how he set up his argument holding an ontology e how this end up to be an argument against the resemblance nominalist too. At last (iii) present the Rodriguez-Pereyra's resemblance nominalist theory, having in mind his awnser to Russell's regress, what are the points that should be explored to understand how he awnser to that.
