A televisão dentro da televisão : representações da TV americana na série The Flintstones (1960-1966)

Abstract

Resumo: O presente trabalho tem como proposta analisar as representações de elementos da televisão americana na série animada The Flintstones, produzida pelo estúdio de animação Hanna-Barbera e exibida pela emissora de televisão ABC entre os anos de 1960 e 1966. A série conta a história de Fred e Wilma Flintstone, uma família que, apesar de viveram na Idade da Pedra, apresentam todas as características das famílias suburbanas da década de 1950 e 1960 dos Estados Unidos. Entendo que os desenhos animados são fontes históricas que reproduzem as narrativas do período em que foram produzidas e, através desta pesquisa, será possível compreender a imagem que a televisão criava de si a partir de um programa televisivo. A metodologia utilizada foi sugerida pelo francês François Jost em Compreender a Televisão, pautada em uma análise televisiva com o foco na programação. Desta forma, busco desenvolver um panorama da televisão americana, das primeiras transmissões até os anos de exibição da série, abordando aspectos políticos e socioculturais para então compreender o que a família Flintstone assistia em sua sala de estar.

Abstract: The present work aims to analyze the representations of elements of American television in the animated series The Flintstones, produced by the Hanna-Barbera animation studio and shown on ABC television between the years 1960 and 1966. The series tells the story of Fred and Wilma Flintstone, a family that, despite living in the Stone Age, presents all the characteristics of suburban families from the 1950s and 1960s. I understand that cartoons are historical sources that reproduce the narratives of the period in which they were produced and, through this research, it will be possible to understand the image that television conveyed of itself within a television program. The methodology used was suggested by the François Jost in Compreender a Televisão, based on a television analysis with a focus on programming. In this way, I seek to develop an overview of American television, from the first broadcasts to the years the series was broadcast, addressing political and sociocultural aspects to then understand what the Flintstone family watched in their living room.
