Abstract: Family relationships are preponderant in society and result in a form of power that seeks to reproduce family capital, especially when linked to the political scene or the public machine. In this way, familism represents the struggle to maintain or expand symbolic capital in society. In light of the theoretical bases on familism, genealogy and the Dominant Family Class (OLIVEIRA, GOULART, MONTEIRO), the research developed here seeks to highlight some of these strategies for reproducing family power, specifically that of the Cunha Pereira family, based on discursive practices in the widely circulated newspaper in Paraná, Gazeta do Povo, which has belonged to the family since the 1960s. With the death of lawyer and journalist Francisco Cunha Pereira Filho in 2009, the newspaper was taken over by his son, Guilherme Döring Cunha Pereira. In the logic of the family's effort to reaffirm its class position and reinforce the family's political capital, the central thesis is that it is possible to observe the unity of the ideological discourse from the newspaper's editorials over two generations of family management. The study is therefore based on a dialog between the sociological and communication fields, seeking to map out how family power is reproduced through discursive strategies in the press. The aim is to observe that, despite the different life trajectories of their presidents, there are similarities in the discursive marks from the newspaper's editorials, which represent the opinion of the newspaper's owners. The corpus of analysis is made up of 90 editorials selected after reading the publications published during the periods in which six Proposed Amendments to the Constitution (PEC) with proposed changes to social security were being processed. For this analysis, the aim is to focus specifically on the modes of ideology in the editorials on the social security reforms undertaken by the federal government in different administrations from the 1990s to 2019. As a tool, we used Critical Discourse Analysis based on the contributions of Fairclough and Dijk. The categories of analysis for observing the discourse were based on readings on neoliberalism from the perspectives of Foucault, Bourdieu and Marxists. After observing and reflecting on the editorials, we found evidence of the unity of the neoliberal discourse in Gazeta do Povo's publications during the administrations of Francisco Cunha Pereira Filho and Guilherme Döring Cunha Pereira, based on the defense of the neoliberal state, the minimal state, the promotion of a reduction in social protection, the logic of efficiency and the predominance of the economic element. The use of similar discursive strategies in defense of neoliberal ideals traces a unity of this ideological class position throughout the newspaper's two administrations, passing from father to son.
