Abstract: The teaching-learning process seeks to develop the student's protagonism, through the use of active methodologies that deviate from the traditional one, which offers passive learning. In 2022, secondary education adopted the guidelines contained in the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC). This study sought to understand how each Brazilian state developed its curricular framework after the implementation of the BNCC, more specifically how the themes of genetics are being addressed in their curriculums. This process, which brings changes in didactics, also needs adaptation in the continuing education of teachers, offering alternative teaching methods to make teaching more attractive. We can highlight that teaching genetics goes beyond learning concepts, and it is necessary to relate concepts and skills to facilitate the development of scientific thinking. Analyzing, investigating, discussing, understanding and interpreting are important skills for students to assess their own knowledge and understand the world around them. In order to understand and identify how these changes are arranged in the Brazilian state curriculum, documentary research was carried out, with a qualitative approach, through which it was analyzed how each state department of education inserts themes related to genetics. The results obtained allowed us to observe that not all Brazilian states made available the document that presents the curriculum for secondary education, of the 25 curricula available, it was noted that there are some differences in its content. Regarding competences, we have two more recurrent ones EM13CNT205 and EM13CNT304, which correspond to the competences of interpreting results and investigating and discussing the misuse of knowledge, respectively. Regarding the genetic content, it was possible to identify that the most cited contents in the curricula are related to heredity, biotechnology and later molecular genetics. Contents such as epigenetics were the least cited, appearing in only 2 state curricula. The present study relates the BNCC competences with the themes of genetics, from this analysis an e-book was produced that presents teaching strategies, such as proposals for activities developed for genetics classes, aimed at high school biology teachers.
