Abstract: The objective of this work was to synthesize organometallic particles for application in dense polysulfone membranes, for biogas separation. Among the main aspects to be addressed is the study of the synthesis of iron-lignin nanoparticles: chemical structures, morphologies developed by them, and the influence of their respective properties for the permeation of N2, CO2 and CH4. To synthesize the ironlignin nanoparticles a nanoprecipitation method was applied, SEM and TEM analysis have shown that circular particles are formed when THF is used as solvent whereas the use of DMF resulted in elongated particles. It was also observed that the temperature of the solutions the particles diameters. At 40 ºC and THF as solvent resulted in 166,87 ± 69,70 nm (softwood lignin) and 158,75 ± 64,61 nm (hardwood lignin), at 25 ºC and THF as solvent resulted into 118,39 ± 42,11 nm (softwood lignin) and 115,86 ± 33,92 nm (hardwood lignin). These particles were analyzed with ANOVA and it was obtained with 95% confidence that the diameters of the particles are different. Finally, permeation tests were carried out with the application of pure lignin and iron-lignin into PSU membranes, the best result obtained for selectivity was the softwood lignin particle precipitated in 0 ºC and THF with selectivity of 24,97 for CO2/CH4 and 26,54 for CO2/N2 but it does not change the fact that the addition of iron in lignin did not result into membranes with satisfactory selectivity.
