Abstract: The pastoral ecosystem is a complex environment due to the interactions that occur simultaneously between plants and herbivores. When the pastoral component is inserted into an agricultural and/or forestry system, other elements are added that further increase the level of complexity, due to the greater number of interactions. Thus, a better understanding of the community dynamics of forage species in integrated systems is necessary, especially in cropping systems without the pesticide-free. Therefore, this work was carried out with the objective of evaluating the effects of different combinations of integrated crop livestock systems on the variables of pasture production, distribution of pasture height, composition of forage species and animal performance, s in an environmental preservation area (EPA). The treatments consisted of four livestock production systems: livestock (L), livestock-forest (LF), crop-livestock (CL) and crop-livestock-forest (CLF). The experimental design was complete randomized blocks. The grazing method was continuous with variable stocking. In all systems, the pasture consisted of the presence of black oat (Avenna strigosa Schreb), Megathyrsus maximus cv. Aries, ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) and other poaceae. In the systems with trees, Eucalyptus benthamii was used and in the systems with the presence of the crop, the agricultural crop was maize (Zea mays). The variables related to pasture production, animal performance, distribution of pasture heights and composition of forage species were evaluated. Herbage mass, accumulation rate, total accumulation and herbage bulk density were lower in LF and CLF systems. Despite this, stocking rate, average daily gain and gain per area of live weight were similar between the systems. In winter, forage production was lower, which had an impact on the reduction of stocking rate, on the other hand, in summer there was an increase in forage production and, consequently, greater stocking rate. Management using a height target promoted a mean frequency of heights of the optimum class of around 46%, with the highest values found in systems with trees that also showed less heterogeneity. The CL system had greater species diversity due to the increased frequency of Italian ryegrass and other grasses. The gamma distribution best described the height frequencies of the systems studied. Therefore, the integration with the crop did not influence the characteristics of forage production and animal performance, but increased the diversity of species. The integration with trees showed a smaller width of height distribution, indicating less heterogeneity of the pasture, it also reduced forage production, but without affecting animal performance.
