Pessoas, livros e baralhos : um estudo antropológico das trajetórias e agenciamentos do tarô

Abstract

Resumo: A presente pesquisa objetiva apresentar as controvérsias suscitadas pelos baralhos de tarô a partir do relato da trajetória do autor com estudantes e profissionais do tarô, da análise extensa de manuais e produções científicas sobre o tema e do olhar pormenorizado das artes presentes em três baralhos de tarô (padrão Marselha, padrão Smith-Waite e Tarô Mitológico) a partir de uma perspectiva antropológica ancorada nas teorias de Alfred Gell. Busca-se analisar as disputas entorno da origem, do uso e da interpretação das cartas do tarô, alinhadas à percepção do baralho enquanto agente que não se reduz às proposições dispostas pelos profissionais de tarô e pela literatura especializada. A análise procura se voltar para além dos usos costumeiros dos baralhos, como as práticas oraculares e as terapias alternativas, avaliando os agenciamentos em outros contextos sociais, cujas imagens se tornam modelos para a disposição de outros agentes em suas performances. Ao final do trabalho, intenciona-se demonstrar como o "tarô" em si não é um termo facilmente delimitado, inclusive pela literatura e por profissionais. Ainda assim, segue mobilizando debates históricos, artes da memória, disputas entorno de sua imagética, práticas oraculares e terapêuticas diversas.

Abstract: This research aims to present the controversies raised by tarot decks based on the author's story with students and tarot professionals, an extensive analysis of manuals and scientific productions on the subject and a detailed look at the arts in three tarot decks from an anthropological perspective anchored in Alfred Gell's theories. An analysis is sought as disputes surrounding the origin, use and interpretation of tarot cards, in line with the perception of the deck as an agent that is not reduced to the propositions made by tarot professionals and by the specialized literature. The analysis seeks not only to turn to the usual uses of playing cards, such as oracular practices and alternative therapies, but also to other social contexts, making the images become models for the disposition of other agents in their performances. At the end of the work, the intention is to demonstrate how the "tarot" itself is not an easily delimited term, including by the literature and by professionals. Even so, it continues to mobilize historical debates, memory arts, disputes around its imagery, and various oracular and therapeutic practices.
