A erosão da vida : uma reflexão sobre as representações sociais do suicídio de jovens estudantes de Piraquara (PR)

Abstract

Resumo: Este trabalho se propõe a refletir sobre o tema do suicídio no ambiente escolar a partir das representações sociais sobre o suicídio elaboradas por jovens estudantes do ensino médio na cidade de Piraquara-PR. Considerando o aumento de suicídio entre jovens, que pode ser observado em diferentes lugares - incluindo o Brasil e a cidade em foco -, a Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) esclarece que falar sobre o tema é uma das melhores formas de combatê-lo e preveni-lo. Para orientar as discussões, a OMS criou um conjunto de manuais para os profissionais da mídia, da saúde e da educação sobre quais os cuidados necessários para falar sobre o suicídio sem que se faça uma apologia dele. Um material que pode ser utilizado, inclusive, para pensar as ações do Setembro Amarelo ou similares e no próprio ambiente escolar, posto que a escola é central na vida dos jovens. Neste cenário, interessa pensar como o suicídio é representado por jovens, e se/como essas representações aparecem nas produções disciplinares dos/as estudantes. Partiu-se das seguintes hipóteses: as representações sociais da morte em geral, e do suicídio em especial, aparecem nas mais diversas produções escolares, mesmo que o objeto de estudo não esteja associado diretamente a elas; os/as jovens sentem necessidade de falar sobre o tema, mas a comunidade escolar não está preparada para lidar com ele, tampouco conhece as diretrizes da OMS. Metodologicamente, a pesquisa se apoia em observação participante e análise de material fotográfico e escrito produzido por estudantes em sala de aula ou que circulam no ambiente escolar. A pesquisa permitiu identificar e compreender a existência de diversas representações sociais sobre o suicídio. Espera-se que o estudo possa contribuir no desenvolvimento de estratégias de prevenção e combate ao suicídio. Palavras-chave: Suicídio. Jovens. Representações sociais. Piraquara.

Abstract: This work aims to reflect on the theme of suicide in the school environment from the social representations about suicide elaborated by young high school students in the city of Piraquara-PR. Considering the increase in suicide among young people, which can be observed in different places - including Brazil and the city in focus -, the World Health Organization (WHO) clarifies that talking about the topic is one of the best ways to combat and prevent it. To guide the discussions, WHO created a set of manuals for media, health and education professionals on what care is needed to talk about suicide without making an apologia for it. This manuals can even be used to think about the actions of the Yellow September or similar and at the school environment, since the school is central in young people lives. In this scenario, it is interesting to think about how suicide is represented by young people, and whether how these representations appear in students' disciplinary productions. We started from the following hypotheses: the social representations of death in general, and suicide in particular, appears in the most diverse school productions, even if the object of study is not directly associated with them; young people feel the need to talk about it, but the school community is not prepared to deal with suicide, nor do they know the WHO guidelines. Methodologically, the research is based on participant observation and analysis of photographic and written material produced by students in the classroom or circulating in the school environment. The research allowed to identify and understand the existence of several social representations about suicide and it is hoped that it can contribute to the development of strategies to prevent and combat suicide.
