O Barracão e a rua : experiências e práticas políticas de catadores de materiais recicláveis em Curitiba - PR

Abstract

Resumo: Nos últimos anos os catadores de materiais recicláveis passaram a apresentar-se como um segmento ocupacional que demanda ser reconhecido e valorizado pelas políticas públicas, mobilizando demandas que acionam diversos atores e organizações sociais e estabelecendo-se paulatinamente enquanto sujeitos de direito.Nesse processo, eles vêm buscando uma redefinição da categoria transformando-se de pessoas que vivem do lixo em trabalhadores imprescindíveis para a cidade e agentes ambientais que coletam materiais recicláveis. Por meio de pesquisa etnográfica realizada entre os anos de 2013 e 2015 junto a Associação de Catadores Mutirão em Curitiba - PR, este estudo traz uma reflexão sobre as experiências e práticas políticas dos trabalhadores desta organização e, por meio das singularidades de seu modo de vida, busca apreender o jogo político da catação de matérias recicláveis de Curitiba. A partir da reconstituição da trajetória do Mutirão e no movimento vivido por seus protagonistas, pode-se perceber que ao mesmo tempo em que os catadores catam materiais recicláveis também recolhem e tecem relações, conexões e projetos de autonomia que impulsionam e modulam suas práticas e estratégias políticas. Abstract: In the last few years, the collection of recyclable material has become an occupational category which calls for recognition and appreciation by public policies, setting up demands that callto action several actors and social organizations, and gradually establishing itself as a rights-holder category. Within this process, recyclable material collectors have been seeking for a redefinition of the category: people who earn a living from trash become essential for the city and turn into environmental agents who collect recyclable material. Making use of the ethnographic research carried out from 2013 to 2015 along with Associação de Catadores Mutirão - a recyclable material collectors association in Curitiba/PR- this study brings about a thought process on the experiences and political practices of the workers in this organization and, through the singularities of their lifestyles, seeks to understand the political context of recyclable material collection in Curitiba. Taking as a starting point the reconstruction of Mutirão?s trajectory and the movement experienced by its protagonists, one can notice that while the collectors collect recyclable material they also build and interweave relationships, connections and autonomy projects which put forth and devise their political practices and strategies.
