Pensamento libertino e ciência no século XVII : Viagem à lua e Viagem ao sol de Cyrano de Bergerac

Abstract

Resumo: A presente dissertação volta-se para a investigação do livre-pensamento no século XVII, através da análise de Viagem à Lua e Viagem ao Sol, escritos que foram publicados postumamente, nos anos de 1657 e 1662, e tratam das viagens empreendidas por um viajante para a Lua e o Sol, locais que são considerados mundos e são povoados por seres que possuem hábitos totalmente contrários aos humanos. As obras são da autoria de Cyrano de Bergerac, escritor entendido como um livre-pensador, um representante do grupo dos libertinos ?? modo como foram nomeados posteriormente pela historiografia. As narrativas de Cyrano propõem uma nova maneira de exercer o pensamento, empregando a imaginação como uma modalidade possível para o entendimento do real. Assim, com um suporte teóricometodológico baseado no campo da história cultural e numa perspectiva da esfera da cultura escrita, o objetivo aqui é examinar como o pensamento libertino foi exprimido pelo escritor e como ele compreende a sua realidade e interpreta o conhecimento sobre o mundo. Tal análise também buscou entender o contexto em que os libertinos do século XVII estavam imersos: um período que perpassou pela instauração do absolutismo, que ocasionou o recrudescimento da ordem, com a subordinação dos indivíduos ao poder e governo do Estado e que, ao mesmo tempo, vivenciou a emergência da dúvida ?? em decorrência do abalo sofrido pelas instituições religiosas, em virtude do cisma causado pela Reforma, e face às descobertas científicas que minaram as concepções sobre a formação do mundo defendidas pelo cristianismo. Abstract: This dissertation aims to investigate freethought in the 17th century by analyzing Voyage to the Moon and Voyage to the Sun, writings that were published posthumously, in 1657 and 1662, and that describe journeys undertaken by a traveler to the Moon and the Sun, places that are considered worlds, inhabited by beings with habits completely contrary to those of humans. These works were authored by Cyrano de Bergerac, a writer who is considered a freethinker and a representative of the group of libertines ?? who were named so introduce a new way of exercising thought, using imagination as a possible tool for understanding reality. Thus, by means of a theoretical and methodological support grounded in cultural history and from a written culture perspective, the aim here is to examine how the libertine thought was expressed by the author and how he perceives his own reality and interprets knowledge about the world. This analysis also sought to understand the context in which the 17th century libertines lived: a time period that saw the rise of absolutism, which caused the invigoration of order and the subordination of individuals to the power and government of the state, and that simultaneously witnessed the emergence of doubt ?? as a consequence of the jolts experienced by religious institutions, because of the schism caused by the Reformation, and in the face of the scientific discoveries that undermined the ideas on the origins of the world defended by Christianity.
