    Abstract
    Resumo: A presente pesquisa se dedica ao entendimento das atitudes diante da morte no Brasil Contemporâneo. Seu foco é no estudo das práticas funerárias e na preparação para a morte por parte dos brasileiros que caíram em combate na Segunda Guerra Mundial. A relação da sociedade brasileira com a morte e o morrer em guerra revela nesse período os conflitos e a cooperação entre as instituições religiosas e militares e destas com a população. Com a entrada do Brasil nesse conflito mundial em 1942, e o envio da Força Expedicionária Brasileira (FEB) para o teatro de operações na Itália em 1944, ocorreu a consequente criação de um Pelotão de Sepultamento (PS). Essa unidade gerou diversas fontes passíveis de problematizar a preparação individual do soldado para a probabilidade de sua própria morte. Partiu-se da análise de devoções individuais deles, expressas nos objetos religiosos encontrados pelo PS em seus cadáveres. Ao mesmo tempo, procedimentos institucionais destinados ao tratamento dos mortos em guerra, os monumentos fúnebres e o repatriamento dos restos mortais dos soldados caídos no front, permitem interpretar as tentativas de construção de um culto cívico aos mortos no Brasil Contemporâneo.     Abstract: This research is dedicated to understanding the attitudes towards death in Contemporary Brazil. Its focus is on the study of funerary practices and preparation for death by the Brazilians who have fallen in combat in World War II. The relationship of Brazilian society with death and dying in this period war reveals the conflicts and cooperation between the military and religious institutions, and these with the population. With the entry of Brazil in world conflict in 1942 and the sending of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (BEF) to the theater of operations in Italy in 1944 occurred the consequent creation of a Platoon of burial (PS). That unit generated several likely sources problematize the individual preparation of the soldier to the likelihood of his own death. We started from the analysis of individual devotions them, expressed in religious objects found by PS on their corpses. At the same time, institutional procedures for the treatment of war dead, funeral monuments and the repatriation of the remains of fallen soldiers at the front, allow attempts to interpret the construction of a civic cult of the dead in Contemporary Brazil.
