representação do invasor necessitado. Dessa maneira, reconhecemos a atuação

sociais Abstract: This dissertation discusses how the Capixaba press treated the invasions of urban
lands in the region of Greater Vitória in the state of Espírito Santo, from 1974 to
1984. From the analysis and discussion of the representations constructed and
activated by the newspapers A Gazeta and A Tribuna are pointed out the disputes,
social and political ambiguities that crossed the conditions of production, circulation
and diffusion of the news in the context of Political Redemocratization (1974-1985)
and the modernization of the written press in Espírito Santo, highlighting the use of
the representation of the needy invader. In this way, we recognize the social and
political performance of the journals in the understanding of urban problems, not only
as neutral or impartial intermediary or "voice", of the different social and political
interests that shaped the locality, but as a constituent part of the production of social
understanding and political decision-making around the urban phenomenon of
invasions of urban lands, especially when transforming it into news from the
grammars and logics of the journalistic field. For this, we selected historical sources,
news stories and newspaper reports investigated through the methodology of content
analysis, from which we identified discursive and narrative strategies operated in the
construction of news, with reference to the social, cultural and political
contextualization of the process of production and circulation of those, as well as
their insertion in the network of sociability and in the relations of force that involved
journalists and communication companies.
Keywords: urban land invasions, journalistic representations, social struggles.
