O esporte sub judice : o caso da série literária

Abstract

Resumo: Esta pesquisa objetivou analisar as representações do esporte-moderno contidas em uma série de romance policial norte-americano, a "Myron Bolitar", de autoria do escritor Harlan Coben. Foram considerados como escopo da pesquisa os dez primeiros exemplares da série (publicados entre 1995 e 2011, nos Estados Unidos), cujo foco baseou-se em elementos do campo esportivo representados nos enredos. Assim, utilizamos as obras traduzidas para o português, publicadas entre 2011 e 2017, pela editora Arqueiro. Como recurso metodológico foi utilizada a proposta de análise literária de Antonio Candido (2014), combinada com autores que discorrem acerca do fenômeno esportivo moderno nos Estados Unidos (EUA), assim como sobre o fenômeno da convergência midiática. Categorizamos as representações encontradas na série em: atletas, personagem principal/agente esportivo, modalidades esportivas retratadas e relação estabelecida entre público e autor. Inferimos que Coben se utiliza de elementos do campo esportivo desde a primeira obra da série, através da qual sua carreira como escritor ganha repercussão, até a décima obra analisada, porém retrata o esporte de maneira unilateral, recorrendo ao esporte-espetáculo como elemento de aproximação com o público, porém, negligenciando demais manifestações. O autor também se restringe a representar modalidades esportivas com as quais tem certa aproximação, como a prática por lazer, por exemplo, expondo apenas elementos característicos de esportes populares no contexto dos EUA: futebol americano, tênis, golfe e basquetebol. Em relação à convergência, Coben a adota parcialmente, pois interage com seus fãs, através de discussões e publicações nas redes sociais, mas tal interação restringe-se a esse ambiente, como um meio de marketing das obras, não refletindo nos enredos posteriores de sua autoria, permanecendo fiel à estrutura das obras de romance policial. Nesse sentido, acreditamos que a representação dos esportes na série repousa sobre uma manifestação literária de esporte que, apesar de baseada em elementos contextuais, existe apenas no textual, desenvolvendo o que chamamos de esporte-ficção. Abstract: This research aimed to analyze the representations of modern sport contained in a series of American detective novel, the series "Myron Bolitar", authored by the writer Harlan Coben. The first ten books (published between 1995 and 2011, in the United States), were considered as scope of the research, whose focus was based on elements of the sports field represented in the scenarios. Thus, we use the books translated into Portuguese, published between 2011 and 2017, by the publisher Arqueiro. As a methodological resource, the proposal of literary analysis of Antonio Candido (2014), combined with authors who discussing the modern sports phenomenon in the United States (US), as well as on the phenomenon of media convergence were used. We identified the representations found in the series in: athletes, main character/sports agent, sports portrayed and relationship between public and writer. We infer that Coben uses elements of the sports field from the first book of the series, through which his career as a writer gains repercussion. Up to the tenth work analyzed, however, portrays the sport in a unilateral way, using the sport-spectacle as an element of approach to the public, but neglecting other manifestations. The author also restricts to represent sports modalities with which he has a certain approximation, such as practice for leisure, for example, exposing only characteristic of popular sports in the US context: football, tennis, golf and basketball. With respect to convergence, Coben adopts it partially, because it interacts with fans, through discussions and publications in the social networks, but this interaction is restricted to this environment, as a means of marketing of the books, not reflecting in the later works of the writer, while remaining faithful to the structure of the detective novels. In this sense, we believe that the representation of sports in the series, rests on a literary manifestation of sport that, although based on contextual elements, exists only in the textual, developing what we call sport-fiction.
