Sob solados de ferro : o pesadelo distópico de Jack London e a ascensão do nazifascismo (1907-1933)

Abstract

Resumo: A presente dissertação dedica-se à análise do romance distópico O Tacão de Ferro do autor norte-americano Jack London sob o viés especifico de uma interpretação conferida a posteriori à obra por leitores da esquerda europeia das décadas de 1920 e 1930 que viam na distopia escrita por London uma espécie de antecipação dos regimes de inspiração fascista da Itália e Alemanha. Tomando por base, especialmente, os trabalhos do historiador Robert Owen Paxton, do semiólogo Umberto Eco e dos filósofos Gilles Deleuze e Felix Guattari creio ter sido possível identificar na narrativa ficcional indícios factíveis e precoces de um conjunto de valores e crenças de natureza conservadora e contrarrevolucionária que em muito contribuiria com a ascensão no nazifascismo, compondo o substrato cultural do apoio que as elites políticas e econômicas concederam aos referidos regimes em sua escalada ao poder. Abstract: The present dissertation focus on the analysis of the dystopic novel The Iron Heel of the American writer Jack London by the specific point of view of an interpretation given by some Left wing European readers on the 1920's and 1930's that saw in the romance a sort of a anticipation of Italian and German fascist-like regimes. Based specially upon the works of the historian Robert Owen Paxton, the semiologist Umberto Eco and the philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, I believe it was possible to identify on the fictional narrative reliable evidences of an early appearance of idiosyncratic values of conservative and counterrevolutionary nature that contributed greatly for the uprising of Nazis and fascists, compounding the cultural substrata of the support granted to the fascist's regimes by the economic and political elites during their pathway to power.
