    Abstract

Abstract: Concrete Face Rockfill Dams (CFRD) are constituted by a rock mass compacted in layers, which is the main body of the structure and a concrete slab on the upstream face, which function is to stanch the massive. Although the contribution of the slab in terms of resistance to contain the reservoir is small, it is subject to displacements and the formation of cracks due to the efforts of hydrostatic pressure, especially when filling the reservoir, causing differential movement in the riprap, producing new configurations of tension and stability. In this context, this work analyzes the damage in reinforced concrete structures supported by elastic base, and aplly the model in concrete slab of rockfill dam. The methodology involves the concepts of Continuum Damage Mechanics and takes into account the nonlinear behavior of concrete, using mathematical programming in Fortran language. The solution of the problem is based on the Finite Element Method (FEM). The feasibility of implementing an infiltration monitoring system is also analyzed by means of experimental tests, from reading the measured temperatures in different optical cables installed on a structure. Experimental tests were performed on LAME (LACTEC - UFPR) and the University of Innsbruck - Austria. The experimental results were compared with the numerical results showing a study of the relationship between damage and permeability of concrete. After validation of an infiltration monitoring system by optical fibers, it is suggested installation in areas of greatest damage to the structure, where there is greater concentration of cracks.
