Poluição hídrica por dejetos de suínos : um estudo de caso na área rural do Município de Quilombo, Santa Catarina

Abstract

A atividade suinícola, essencial para a economia de muitos municípios do oeste catarinense, tem desencadeado sérios problemas ambientais. Os principais resíduos resultantes dessa atividade, os dejetos de suínos, podem ser caracterizados como poluidores de grande magnitude, principalmente no meio hídrico, tendo em vista o volume significativo e as características físico-químicas dos dejetos que os animais produzem. O setor relacionado à atividade suinícola possui importância social, econômica e cultural, porém, apresenta baixa qualidade ambiental em todas as regiões onde está presente. A partir da situação exposta, a presente pesquisa propôs avaliar impactos ambientais causados pelos dejetos provenientes da atividade suinícola no meio hídrico da porção rural do município de Quilombo, área objeto da pesquisa, inserida na Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio Quilombo, bem como a relação dos diferentes segmentos da sociedade local com a problemática existente. A pesquisa teve como base a abordagem sistêmica, permitindo a análise dos distintos componentes ambientais, em interação. Foram levantados dados das características físicas e de ocupação da área, através de pesquisas bibliográficas e de trabalhos de campo, complementados pela aplicação de um questionário aos criadores de suínos, no sentido de constatar a realidade das condições socioeconômicas e ambientais na área da pesquisa. Foram feitas análises de água, buscando apontar o nível de poluição hídrica gerado pelos dejetos. A conclusão da pesquisa, através dos resultados das análises, apontou que o meio hídrico da região apresenta características químicas e biológicas alteradas. Entretanto, foram constatadas maiores alterações a jusante da área urbana, local onde o Rio Quilombo recebe maior carga poluidora relacionada aos dejetos produzidos na cidade. Tal situação acabou por contrariar as expectativas iniciais da pesquisa. Apesar disso, a questão da poluição causada por dejetos de suínos permanece como um problema na área da pesquisa, tendo em vista as condições em que é feita a destinação dos resíduos, o que representa riscos ao meio ambiente, determinando a necessidade de um planejamento com vistas à gestão ambiental.

Abstract: The swine activity, essential for the economy of many cities of the west of Santa Catarina, has caused serious environmental problems, like the problems found in Quilombo, state of Santa Catarina. The main residues resulted by this activity, the swine dejections, can be considered one of the biggest causers of pollution, especially in the water, because of its significant volume and the phisycal-chemical characteristics of the dejects that the animals produce. The sector related to the swine activity has a social, economical and cultural importance; however, it presents a low environment quality in all the regions where it is present. With the exposed situation, the research proposed evaluate the environmental impacts caused by the dejects from the swine activity in the hydric environment of the rural portion of Quilombo, area-object of research, inserted in the hydrographic basin of Quilombo river, and also the relation of the different segments of the rural local society with the problem. The research had as base the systemic approach, permitting the analysis of the distinct environmental components, in interaction. Data of the physical and occupation characteristics of the area were searched, with a fieldwork and bibliographic researches, complemented with the application of a questionnaire to the swine creators to make sure about the reality of the social economical and environmental conditions in the area. The water was analyzed to point the level of hydric pollution caused by the dejects. The conclusion of the research, through the analysis results, pointed that the hydric environment of the region presents chemical and biological characteristics altered. However, big alterations were evidenced the ebb tide of the urban area, where Quilombo river receives a bigger polluter load related to the dejects produced in the city. This situation has gone against to the initial anticipations of the paperwork. Nonetheless, the question of the pollution caused by the swine dejects remains as a problem in the area of work, keeping in mind the conditions which the destination of the residues is done, that represents risks to the environment, determining the necessity of a planning objecting the environmental management.
