Caminhos do pensamento tradutório de Lawrence Venuti

Abstract

Resumo: É inegável o destaque que o pensamento de Lawrence Venuti acerca da situação contemporânea dos tradutores no mundo anglófono assumiu desde a publicação de seu The Translator's Invisibility, em 1995. A polaridade entre uma abordagem domesticadora e outra estrangeirizadora, bem como a denúncia da situação de invisibilidade do tradutor, inscreveram seu nome no rol de pensadores inequívocos para a compreensão da teoria e da crítica contemporâneas de tradução. Entretanto, Venuti é um pesquisador muito ativo, oferecendo constante refinamento e reformulações de conceitos-chave num pensamento em construção. Assim, tendo como norte os desenvolvimentos e superações anunciadas no prefácio de seu Translation Changes Everything (2013), esta dissertação pretende justamente acompanhar sua trajetória intelectual, iniciada em meados dos anos 1990 e ainda bastante ativa nos dias de hoje, analisando a transformação de seu repertório teórico e conceitual e problematizando as continuidades e descontinuidades de seu pensamento. Abstract: One cannot deny the spotlight over Lawrence Venuti's thoughts about the translators' contemporary conditions in the Anglo-American world since the publication of The Translator's Invisibility in 1995. The polarity between a domesticating and a foreignizing approach, as well as the exposition of the translator's invisibility, have inscribed his name in the list of the essential thinkers to the understanding of the contemporary translation theory and criticism. However, Venuti is a very active researcher, who offers a constant refining and recasting of key concepts in his reflections. Thus, considering the developments and solutions presented in the introduction to his Translation Changes Everything (2013), this dissertation aims at analyzing his intellectual career, which began in the mid-1990s and is still quite active nowadays, evaluating the transformation of his theoretical and conceptual repertoire while questioning the continuities and discontinuities of his thinking.
