Abstract: This research aimed to investigate whether recommendations for the design of interaction systems and navigation systems of multimedia digital magazines for tablets are being met by the publications of the genre. For this purpose, initially we sought to investigate, in the literature, aspects of reading experience and interaction and navigation in digital magazines, as well as design recommendations. Such recommendations formed the basis for the development of a descriptive and normative model used in the analytical study. We sought also to investigate the applicability of the cultural probe method to investigate the experience of reading of the multimedia digital magazines (RDM's) in the real context of use. This way the research is composed of an analytical study followed an exploratory study (involving readers) for the same object of study, the multimedia digital magazines. As main results of the analytical study it is found that most of the recommendations found in the literature are being met by large part of the RDM's analyzed. The main problems encountered relate to: the location and identification of sensitive areas, making difficult the navigation and interaction with the RDM; to the limited use of digital resources, such as links; to missing or inadequate guidance on existing resources and about the form of navigation and interaction; and the lack of indications for guidance and navigation in RDM. From the exploratory study was obtained as main results: the indication of gaps between the expectation of readers and the possibilities of RDM's, the divergence between points from the literature and the preferences of the reader and developments for future studies, given the exploratory nature of the method. We also present conclusions about the results and possible unfolding of the research.
