Abstract: The large volume of vehicular traffic - in both Brazil and around the world - is pointed as the main responsible for the noise pollution that affects the inhabitants of large and medium-sized urban centers. Bearing in mind all the damage that noise can cause to people, it is essential to take preventive measures to assess this environmental polluter, as well as to mitigate this subtle and imperceptible enemy. The present study evaluated, through measurements and acoustic maps, the actual acoustic environment at the Northern Green Line (LVN) in Curitiba-PR. Subsequently, were simulated mitigatory measures aimed at reducing noise levels - considering the decrease in the current flow of vehicles and the reduction of average traffic speed. In addition, were simulated the sound levels that reach the frontages of a residential building and of a hospital. Finally, was performed a computational prediction of sound levels for the next 20 years. The results of the proposed simulations were compared to the limits established by Law nº 10625/02, from the city of Curitiba, and by the Brazilian "Noise Assessment in Communities" Standard - NBR1051.Measurements and acoustic maps proved, for the present situation, the existence of noise pollution. The simulated mitigatory measures proved inadequate to reduce sound levels to values set by the Municipal Act and the Brazilian Standards.
