Caracteristicas reprodutivas de ovinos (Ovis aries) submetidos a tratamentos com dimetil sulfoxido (DMSO)

Abstract

Resumo: Com o objetivo de se comparar os efeitos da aplicação tópica de Dimetil Sulfóxido, na dose de 1 g/kg peso vivo, e da solução salina sobre as caracterísitcas reprodutivas de ovinos, 9 reprodutores Hampshire Down de 16 meses de idade e peso vivo médio de 50 kg, foram utilizados no estudo. Os animais foram divididos em três grupos com 3 animais em cada, e as avaliações foram realizadas semanalmente, durante 18 semanas consecutivas, abrangendo duas gametogêneses. O experimento foi dividido em 2 períodos: o período preliminar serviu ao condicionamento dos animais à colheita do sêmen e padronização das características estudadas, e abrangeu as 9 primeiras semanas; o período experimental serviu à comparação entre os efeitos da droga e da solução salina sobre as características reprodutivas. Este período abrangeu as 9 semanas restantes do experimento, após os animais terem recebido aplicações tópicas na bolsa escrotal e jarrete. O grupo controle recebeu solução salina no jarrete e bolsa escrotal, o grupo experimental I recebeu DMSO na bolsa, e grupo experimental II o recebeu no jarrete. A dose total diária foi dividida em duas aplicações com intervalo de 12 horas, durante 7 dias consecutivos. Não houveram diferenças significativas entre os grupos para quaisquer das características avaliadas. A biometria testicular, o comportamento sexual, e as características seminais não sofreram alterações após a aplicação do DMSO e solução salina e a fertilidade dos reprodutores, medida pelos resultados das características estudadas, manteve-se alta durante todo o experimento.

Abstract: With the objective of comparing the effects of the topical application of dimethyl sulphoxyde (DMSO), at the dosage of 1 g/Kg, and saline solution over the reproductive characteristics of the ovine, nine sixteen-month-old Hampshire Down rams, with an average Weigth of 50 Kg, were used in the study. The animals were divided into three groups of three animals each, the evaluations were carried out weekly, during 18 consecutive weeks, comprehending two gametogenesis. The experiment was divided into two periods: the preliminary period was used for the conditioning of the animals to the collecting of the semen and the standartization of the characteristics studied. That took the first 9 weeks. The experimental period served to the comparing of drug effects and of the saline solution over the reproductive characteristics. This period took the remaining 9 weeks of the experiment, after the animals had received the topical applications in the scrotum and in the hock. The control group was given saline solution in the hock and in the scrotum, the experience group I was given DMSO in the scrotum, and the experience group II was given it the hock. The total daily intake was divided into two applications every 12 hours, during seven consecutives days. There have not been significant changes in the groups for any of the evaluated characteristics. The testicle biometry, the sexual behavior and the seminal characteristics have not suffered alterations after the application of the DMSO and the saline solution. The fertility level of the rams, measured by the results of the characteristics studied, has kept high all during the experiment.
