Dissertação (Mestrado em Design de Sistemas de Informação) – Programa de Pós-Graduação em Design, Universidade Federal do Paraná. Curitiba, 2011. Abstract: MORAES, Reinaldo P. E-comics in advertising banners on the Web. CURITIBA, 2011. 175 f. Dissertation (Master in Design) – Graduate Program in Design, Federal University of Paraná. Curitiba, 2011. This dissertation describes a research that approaches the use of e-comics as media on the Web and the memorization of information. Due the increase of user on the Internet also increase companies that are interested in providing their products through of these media, mainly in banners. If one of the advertising goals is to make costumers memorize information about products, it is necessary to research the relation between emotion and memorization process with the use of e-comics in banners. It is known that the syntax of the banners and of the e-comics enables the use these in spreading of information. So, what it is intended is to answer the research question that investigates, considering the memorization of information spreaded in banners on the Web, if there are advantages in the use of e-comics within the banners as media when they are compared with the use of traditional animated banner. This work presents a problem, a question, a research hypothesis, general and specific goals, justifications to perform this research and the characterization of the applied research method. It is made theoretical review about the advertising, the models of advertising messages, the advertising structure on the Internet and the use of banners and its characteristics. Also it is studied the memory, including the types of memory and the memorization process. Furthermore, it is highlighted the relation between memory and emotion, and between memory and mood, besides of the OCC model of representation of emotions. Moreover, this model was used in the construction of part of the research questionnaires. It is presented some considerations about the possible emotional and visual stimuli through the use of images in the e-comics. Besides that, it is reported the process of construction of the e-comic used in the experiment. It is described the experiment application, the data collection and finally, it is presented the performed statistic analysis, the discussion of results and the research conclusions. Among other, the main conclusion refers to the general goal and it is discovered that there are no advantages in the use of e-comics in banners if compared with traditional animated banners in the context of memorization of information.
