    Resumo
Resumo:The executive dysfunction has been considered a core feature of cognitive impairments in schizophrenia, and it is associated with poor functional, social and professional performance. People with schizophrenia are include at groups with poor rates of participation in work, considering that and the role of worker is a central element of life, the array of social integration. The aim of this study is to identify the relationship of Executive Functions (EF) and return to work of people after first psychotic episode in schizophrenia. The method used was a quasi-experimental study, with 15 individuals diagnosed with schizophreniform disorder, between 18 and 40 years after the first episode and treatment in Centro de Atenção Psicossocial. For data collection interview socio-demographic was applied, with Wisconsin Cards Sorting Test, Disexecutive Questionaire and Work Role Interview assessments. The results for these samples suggest that there is a slight performance decrease in EF, and a weak correlation was indicate between EF and return to work. When comparing two diagnostic groups (F20 and Fmix - F21 and F25), there was no significant differences in the results of the tests. Forty seven percent of individuals in the sample returned to work after first episode. The data suggest that the hypothesis could not be confirmed probably due to the small number of participants, and further studies with larger samples and multicentric design might be more conclusive.
