| pt_BR |
dc.description.abstract | Abstract: This research has investigated the mother's conceptions about their involvement in the evaluation of the development of their son, conducted by a psychologist, within an early intervention service. Like that based on model of integral intervention in early intervention, based on the ecological theory of Bronfenbrenner. It is also characterized as a qualitative and exploratory investigation, in which participated seven mothers of babies with Down's syndrome, aged between zero and three years, enrolled in an early intervention program in a special school of Curitiba, PR. After analyzing the data through content analysis, it was possible to notice that mothers, before participating in the evaluation of the development of their child, along with the psychologist: (a) emphasized delays in the development of the child, especially in the motor area and their impossibility of conducting certain tasks; (b) entered in the consultation room a few times and limited themselves to observing the activities conducted by the professional team; (c) emphasized that they would like to watch the consultations frequently; (d) affirmed that they had never participated in the evaluations of the child and never knew how they occurred or their results; (d) had little contact with the psychologist, and were unaware of his function in the care services and thought that this professional was restricted to the care of people with mental disorders. After participating in the evaluation of child development, along with the psychologist, it was observed that the mothers: (a) were surprised with the skills of the baby in accomplishing the tasks proposed in the development scale; (b) had a better comprehension regarding the development of the baby with Down's syndrome and amplied the concept of development; (c) observed the behavior of the child more attentively, explaining details about the strengths and weaknesses in the development of the baby; (d) were more strongly engaged in offering stimulating activities to the baby at home; (e) motivated the involvement of other family members in these activities; (f) began to relate the role of the psychologist in early intervention with the infant development of babies. The results suggest that the conceptions of mothers regarding the infant development of babies with Down's syndrome can be changed from their participation in the evaluation conducted by the psychologist, in early intervention, engaging her in the promotion of the development of the child. It is suggested that universities invest in the training of professionals and encourage research related to attention and early intervention. This research revealed a new possibility for the intervention of the psychologist, in the perspective of an integral model of intervention in early intervention, with the complete participation and involvement of the family. | pt_BR |
