Entre a fé e a política : a trajetória do movimento estudantil e do clero católico durante o regime militar no Maranhão (1971-1989)

Abstract

Resumo: Com a secularização do mundo moderno, a Igreja Católica passou a reorientar sua atuação em favor da expansão aos leigos, o que impulsionou a formação de grupos de juventudes católicas que, em alguns contextos, desembocaram em movimentos estudantis ligados à instituição eclesiástica. Este trabalho investiga as relações entre o Movimento Estudantil e o Clero Católico no Maranhão, entre 1971 e 1989, tendo como estudo de caso a "Caminhada pela Paz" de 1978, quando estudantes e religiosos homenageiam o papa Paulo VI em um ato que também se configurou como manifestação contra a Ditadura Civil-Militar. O estudo parte da compreensão do Movimento Estudantil como um movimento social, portanto sujeito a constantes reconfigurações ao longo da sua trajetória. Com base em pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, realizada no Arquivo Público do Maranhão (APEM), especificamente das séries Entidades Religiosas e Estudantes, busca-se analisar as mudanças de repertórios, simbologias e ressonâncias das transformações da Igreja Católica no século XX no contexto maranhense

Abstract: With the secularization of the modern world, the Catholic Church began to reorient its actions toward the expansion of lay participation, which fostered the formation of Catholic youth groups that, in certain contexts, evolved into student movements linked to ecclesiastical institutions. This study investigates the relationships between the Student Movement and the Catholic Clergy in the state of Maranhão between 1971 and 1989, using as a case study the "March for Peace" of 1978, during which students and religious figures paid tribute to Pope Paul VI in an act that also functioned as a protest against the Civil-Military Dictatorship. The study is grounded in an understanding of the Student Movement as a social movement and, therefore, as one subject to constant reconfigurations throughout its trajectory. Based on bibliographic and documentary research conducted at the Public Archive of Maranhão (APEM), specifically within the dossiers Religious Entities and Students, the analysis seeks to examine changes in repertoires, symbolisms, and the ways in which the transformations of the Catholic Church in the twentieth century resonated within the Maranhão context
