    Abstract

Abstract: This work presents the evaluation of techniques used for the fingerprint recognition aiming a future implementation in a distributed system for room access control operating with low-cost microcontrolers. The main objective was to test the efficiency, performance and limitations of the pre-processing, post-processing, segmentation and feature extraction of the fingerprints to allow their utilization in less powerful processors. A new technique for the recognition of fingerprints is also presented. This form of minutiae comparison has the objective to allow fingerprint recognition even in the presence of small translation due to finger positioning on the sensor.
