Abstract

Resumo: O presente trabalho tem como objeto a análise das representações sociais que circulam nos jornais paranaenses Gazeta do Povo e Tribuna do Paraná e na revista de jornalismo científico Superinteressante a respeito do vírus da gripe A (H1N1), tendo como referencial teórico a Teoria das Representações Sociais. Busca-se identificar e, posteriormente, interpretar sociologicamente tais representações tendo como ponto de partida o pressuposto que norteia este paradigma teórico: o de que as representações sociais são voltadas para a interpretação social de elementos estranhos, não familiares, a partir das quais estes transfiguram-se em elementos familiares. Assim, objetivou-se identificar as estratégias, metáforas e analogias empregadas pelos jornais para representar aquele evento novo, focando a análise no período que compreende o surgimento da doença, em março de 2009, até setembro daquele ano - mês que marca um declínio na quantidade de notícias relacionadas ao tema. Além disso, aceito o pressuposto de que as representações sociais não constituem realidades estáticas, ahistóricas, planejou-se fazer um mapeamento das representações que se formaram no decurso da epidemia, dando especial atenção aos processos de modificação, invenção e, também, permanências de representações sobre o vírus da gripe A no decorrer do tempo. Abstract: The object of the present research is an analysis of the social representations of type A influenza-virus (H1N1) displayed in two newspapers from Paraná: Gazeta do Povo, Tribuna do Paraná and in the science journalism magazine Superinteressante. This analytical work will be based on the Social Representation Theory. Our aim is first to identify and afterwards to sociologically interpret these representations, building our analysis on the presuppositions that guide this theoretical paradigm: namely, that social representations are aimed at the social interpretation of strange, unfamiliar elements; these are, then, transfigured in familiar elements. Thus, we managed to identify strategies, metaphors and analogies employed by newspapers to represent that novel event, focusing our analysis on the period comprised between the outbreak of the illness (March 2009) and September of the same year - the month that signals a decline in the amount of articles related to the theme. Besides that, assuming that social representations do not constitute static, a-historical realities, a plan was drawn of the representations that took form throughout the epidemic, considering especially the processes of modification, invention and also permanence of representations of type A influenza-virus that took place throughout the aforementioned time lapse.
