Processos de institucionalização do wushu na era maoísta : considerações a partir da análise de manuais elaborados pela Comissão de Esportes e Cultura Física da República Popular da China entre 1958-1963

Abstract

Resumo: Na década de 1950, o governo da República Popular da China esteve envolvido com a promoção da massificação das atividades corporais e com o desenvolvimento do sistema esportivo chinês, assim como com processos de reinvenção de manifestações da cultura física nativa. Com efeito, a atmosfera desse período foi celeiro para a criação de um esporte nacional, constituído a partir da seleção e da sistematização de conteúdos presentes em diferentes linhas de artes marciais chinesas denominadas, em mandarim, de "wushu". Este estudo se propôs a investigar como se configurou, na República Popular da China, a fase inicial do processo de institucionalização de artes marciais nativas que veio a culminar na emergência de modalidades esportivas altamente racionalizadas e regulamentadas. A análise de fontes fundamentou-se, em especial, em manuais de wushu que foram elaborados ou endossados pela Comissão de Esportes e Cultura Física da República Popular da China entre 1958 e 1963. Os conteúdos presentes nos manuais consultados são marcados por noções reformistas, sendo que os autores advogam que o wushu deveria ser reorganizado de modo a tornar-se mais acessível à população e mais adequado às necessidades da "Nova China". A narrativa dos autores ecoa diretivas e slogans institucionais e ressalta o valor das práticas de wushu para a formação de cidadãos saudáveis, produtivos e aptos à defesa da nação. Abstract: In the 1950s, the Government of the People's Republic of China promoted the massification of physical activities and the development of the Chinese sports system, as well as the reinvention of indigenous physical culture practices. The atmosphere of this period favoured the creation of a national sport, constituted from the selection and systematization of technical and symbolic contents found in different lines of Chinese martial arts which are designated, in mandarin, as "wushu". The proposal of this research was to investigate the initial stage of the institutionalization process of Chinese martial arts which resulted in the emergence of highly rationalized and regulated sports events. The main sources consisted of Chinese wushu textbooks which were produced or endorced by the Physical Culture and Sports Commission of the People's Republic of China between 1958 and 1963. The contents of the manuals are marked by reformist notions, with the authors advocating that the practices of wushu should be reorganized in such a way as to make it more accessible to the population and consistent with the needs of the "New China". The narrative of the authors echoes institutional guidelines and slogans, and stresses the value of wushu activities for the cultivation of citizens that are healthier, more productive, and prepared for the defence of the nation.
