Abstract: Ocean currents are regulators of the global climate and make the overturning and recirculation exchange of heat, salt, and nutrients. In the Atlantic Ocean, this inter-hemispheric exchange occurs through the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), considered as one of the main oceanic forces that act directly on the climate. The AMOC circulation and its relationship with the South Atlantic ocean currents is still a much-debated issue in paleoceanographic studies, and the role of the South Atlantic in the global circulation has only recently been investigated. The current scenario about climate change focuses on the need to understand feedback systems that act on the climate, and in this context, the relationship between the South Atlantic Ocean and the AMOC along the Holocene are considered as points that still need to be worked on. The present dissertation investigated the changes in the flow of the ocean currents that compose the hydrodynamics of the Southwest Atlantic along the Holocene, and its relations with the changes in the AMOC force and paleoclimatic oscillations in the southwestern region of Brazil. We used a multi-proxy analysis, consisting of average silt grains size between 10-63 (sortable silt) and ratios (Fe / K and Fe / Ca), applied on 4 cores collected from the Santos Basin (between 23- 28 ° S) in the isobath of 400 and 1,550 m of depth. The results show that the oceanic circulation of the Southwest Atlantic along the Holocene was directly related to the changes in the circulation of the Northern Hemisphere, and this behavior can be observed through a weakened circulation of the Brazilian Current (CB), and the antiphase about Western Boundary Current (IWBC) and Deep Western Boundary Current (DWBC), in addition, our records clearly show the migration south of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) during the late Holocene, which expresses the increasing terrigenous contribution resulting from the increase in precipitation for the southwestern region of Brazil.
