Santidade e humanidade : aspectos da temática religiosa em obras de Eça de Queiroz

Abstract

Resumo: O presente trabalho busca analisar aspectos da tem ática religiosa em algumas obras do romancista português Eça de Queirós. Para tanto buscamos traçar, primeiramente, um panoram a da crítica religiosa que sempre esteve presente na literatura portuguesa, priorizando o contexto do final do século XIX onde encontramos a Geração de 70, da qual Eça fez parte. Posteriormente, averiguaremos as principais teses existentes sobre os temas religiosos nas obras de Eça de Queirós e que julgam os serem parciais por não valorizarem a liberdade de criação do escritor julgando-o ora crítico mordaz, ora reacionário, além de exigirem uma linearidade na forma e na freqüência da veiculação dos temas religiosos, não levando em conta um a série de acontecimentos que possivelmente influenciaram a forma de Eça encarar a religião nos diversos períodos de produção. Analisaremos esses acontecimentos acompanhando a dialética com que o escritor trabalhará em suas obras com diversos temas, entre eles a religião. Na última parte do trabalho, passaremos às análises de algumas obras queirosianas entre as quais figuram A relíquia, as Vidas dos santos, alguns contos como "A morte de Jesus" e "O suave milagre", além de cartas e crônicas, averiguando, especificamente, a figuração da personagem Jesus e do conceito de santidade que Eça veicula. Pretendemos comprovar que a tem ática religiosa é recorrente do início ao fim na carreira literária do escritor, figurando não como indicadora de um a opção ideológica demarcada, mas sim de um a tensão presente nos escritos de Eça que é reveladora não de contradições, mas de perm anência de elementos críticos. Abstract: The present work searches to analyse aspects of the religious thematic in some works by the Portuguese novelist Eça de Queirós. For this purpose, we search to trace, firstly, a panoram a of the religious critique that was always present into the Portuguese literature, prioritizing the context of the final of the 19th century, where we can find the generation of seventy, which Eça took part. Later, we will verify the main existing theses about the religious theme in E ça's W ork which we judge to be partials for not valorizing the freedom of creation of the writer judging him, sometimes mordacious or reactionary, besides, demanding a linearity in the form and in the frequency of propagation of the religious themes, not considering series of events that possibly would influence the way Eça faces the religion in several periods of production. We will analyse these events by following the dialectic which the writer will work with, in his works about several themes, among them, the religion. In the later part of the work, we have the analyses of some works by Eça de Queirós, such as: "A relíquia", "As vidas dos Santos", some tales such as: "A morte de Jesus" and "O suave milagre", in addition to letters and chronicles, verifying especially, the Jesus character's figure and the concept of Sanctity that Eça propagates. W e intend to prove that the religious thematic is recurrent from the beginning to the end of the literal career of the writer, not appearing just as an indicator of an ideological option set up, but of a present tension in E ça's works that is revealed not of contradictions, but of the permanency of critic elements.
