Chinua Achebe. Ngugi wa Thiong'o. Mia Couto. Alteridade. Teoria pós-colonial. Abstract: The emergence of the post-colonial studies was responsible for the growing academic interest for the African literature. Despite the polemics concerning its autonomy, this corpus presents thematic as well as formal aspects that distinguish it from fictional productions originated from other literary spaces. Among such characteristics, the alterity imposed by the experience suffered by the African continent during the period of European colonization appears as one of its most meaningful aspects. Thus, this work proposes the analyses of the following African novels: Arrow of God by Chinua Achebe, Petals of blood by Ngugi wa Thiong'o and O ultimo voo do flamingo by Mia Couto. As for the exegetic attitude, the post-colonial theory and the literary representation of the alterity in colonized African societies are privileged. Key-words: African literatures. Chinua Achebe. Ngugi wa Thiong'o. Mia Couto. Alterity. Post-colonial theory.
