Abstract: This research supports the hypothesis that the suggestion - abandoned as a technique in the early days of psychoanalysis - once understood as a process inherent in the psychic functioning, remains active in the transference. The hypothesis starts from the idea that the way Freud establishes the notion of transference's love in his texts presupposes the existence of a suggestive component, which remains on the part of the patient in default of the analyst, and without which there could be no transferential phenomenon. And yet, that makes the handling of the transference, even for the experienced analyst, a field always so full of dilemmas and complications. In proposing a study of the transference, returning to the bias of suggestion - especially from its role in transference's love - the research proposes to inquire to what extents an analyst can actually have the reins of the claims as such. Adopting a chronological sequence of Freudian texts, the study follows, not strictly from the conceptual references - although these are the fundamental starting point - but mainly by the effects of the transference in the clinic: the paths (and detours) by which Freud was taken through, sometimes more, sometimes less unintentionally during the analytical process. After the contextualization of the hypothesis in the introduction, the research continues with a second chapter, that - through the analysis of Freud's writings drafted between 1888 and 1905 - seeks to highlight Freud's interest in the subject of suggestion, while still under the influence of Charcot and Bernheim to their questions about the effects of the transfer from the analysis of Dora. Following the third chapter of the dissertation permeates texts relating to the period of Freud's work between 1912 and 1915: by that period Freud dedicated to the issue in a direct transference, legitimating it as a central element in psychoanalytic practice. A fourth chapter, broader in chronological terms, includes texts ranging from 1910 to 1937. An examination of a group of texts belonging to same period of time that the articles worked in the previous chapter, but devoted to love not just limited to the field of transference, is intended to emphasize the repetition compulsion to culminate in the formulation of the concept of death instinct. From writings modulated by rearranging instinctual imposed by systematization of the death drive, the chapter also includes reflections found in the final period of Freudian underpinning the close connection between the sustainability of suggestion and the uncontrollable in transference.
