The citogenetic of the Actinopterygii is well developed when compared to
other classes of fishes. One thing that contributed to this knowledge is the great
number of these animals in fresh and salt water environments, adding
approximately 23.681 species. To help the growth of the citotaxonomic and
elovution data we studied five species of three different orders of this group of
animals. In the Perciformes, we analyzed the Eucinostomus argenteus and the
Diapterus rhombeus, the Mugiliformes were represented by the Mugil curema, and
the Beloniformes by the Strongylura timucu and the S. marina species. With the
exception of the M. curema, that presented the diploid number with 28
chromosomes (20M + 4ST + 4A; NF = 52) the other species presented a diploid
number of 48. The E. argenteus and the D. curema presented 2n = 48 and NF =
48. These two species, and the M. curema, presented a pattern of distribution of
heterochromatin in the region pericentromeric of all chromosomes, the same
pattern being obtained when submitted to treatment with Alul. The Beloniformes
studied presented a bigger karyotypic diversity. S. timucu showed a complement
with 2n + 48 (10M + 2SM + 36A; NF = 60). The distribution of the heterochromatin
showed itself in pericentromeric blocs of M and A chromosomes, and proximals in
chromosomes SM. S. marina presented 4M and 44A (NF = 52), being the first pair
of metacentrics heterochromatic chromosomes in three thirds of its . In both
species the Alul produced that looked like the C bands in almost all chromosomes,
showing the existence of different heterochromatins. The marks of nucleolar
organizer regions were simple in every specie, with a size heteromorphism in the
S. timucu and the S. marina. In every specie were visualized fluorescent blocs that
matched the marks obtained by the Ag-RON when treated with CMA3 and FISH
with probe 18S. In an evolutive vision, the species S. timucu, S. marina and M.
curema presented derivated karyotypes, probably originated by centric fusions and
pericentrics inversions and E. argenteus and D. rhombeus presented basal
karyotypes, with 2n = 48, characteristics that can be related with their populational
structures and forms of dispersion.
