Abstract: The proposal of this work is the development of a methodology to identifying the suspect substations, in order to make the processing of topology errors in the generalized state estimation easier. The methodology is based on the Normalized Lagrange Multiplier (NLM) usage. Since the zero injections at bus sections came in the 90's, various works has been published in the literature by using the NLM, whose emphasis is focused on the second stage of the estimation and the selection of the suspect substations is performed through proposed techniques based on normalized residuals. The main idea of this work is to contribute with the selection of suspect substations in the first stage of the estimation and to unify the processing of topology error identification by using the NLM. The method is performed since the detection and the identification of suspect substations (first stage of the estimation) until the detection and the identification of suspect substations performed in the second stage of the estimation. Besides, this work proposes a new algorithm able to determine the relevant sub-network called Floyd's Algorithm and another presented to the identification of buses and/or isolated islands of the power system called Kruskal's Algorithm. Both are based on graphs theory. The proposed formulation uses the generalized state estimation in two stages. In the first stage are applied the hypothesis testing, the correlation indexes via Lagrange multipliers and the Floyd's Algorithm. The error identification via colinearity test is then applied in the second stage. Tests were performed for the IEEE- 14 buses and IEEE-30 buses in order to evaluate the proposed algorithm.
