A célula no divã : representações de imagens de células entre estudantes do ensino médio a partir de uma perspectiva cultural

Abstract

Resumo: No ensino de ciências e biologia, o uso de imagens para representar um objeto ou uma estrutura celular se torna, cada vez mais, imprescindível. Aparentemente, as imagens presentes nos livros didáticos são as maiores responsáveis pela cultura criada sobre a forma de representação da imagem de célula. Os docentes também fazem uso de vários recursos tais como, esquemas, fotografias, desenhos e tantos outros, como forma de ilustrar determinados conceitos de biologia celular. Entretanto, não conseguem gerar nos estudantes uma representação aproximada sobre as várias formas celulares existentes, e por isso o estudante traz consigo uma imagem única da representação celular - a célula como um ?ovo frito'. Essas imagens podem influenciar a cultura escolar presente na sociedade. Partindo deste pressuposto, esta pesquisa procurou investigar as representações culturais das imagens de células entre estudantes do Ensino Médio. Para tanto, este trabalho se dividiu em três fases: exploratória, coleta de dados e análise dos dados. Na fase exploratória, a pesquisa foi embasada e construída a partir dos estudos acerca das teorias que circundam os Estudos Culturais, Representação e Cultura Escolar. Para a coleta e a análise de dados, foram feitas entrevistas com os estudantes, nas quais se tentou identificar a representação de célula que o estudante trazia consigo desde o Ensino Fundamental. Outros dados também coletados foram: os desenhos e os modelos desenvolvidos pelos os estudantes a partir da leitura de três textos publicados em revistas. Neste processo, os estudantes leram o primeiro texto e representaram, por meio do desenho, modelos de células; no segundo texto, além de ler e desenhar, também descreveram as estruturas; e no terceiro texto, leram, desenharam, descreveram oralmente e criaram os modelos de células em massa modelar. As considerações acerca das entrevistas e das análises dos textos, dos desenhos, dos relatos e dos modelos em massa de modelar cumpriram o objetivo geral desta dissertação - investigar as representações de imagens de célula entre estudantes do Ensino Médio a partir de uma perspectiva cultural. O resultado final do estudo enfatizou que o uso de imagens em livros didáticos e utilizadas pelos professores não mudam a representação criada pelo estudante para a célula durante sua vida escolar.

Abstract: In the teaching of science and biology, the use of images to represent an object or a cellular structure becomes increasingly essential. Apparently, the images present in the textbooks are mainly responsible for the culture created on the representation of the image cell. Teachers also use several resources such as diagrams, photographs, drawings and many others, in order to illustrate certain concepts of cell biology. Unfortunately they cannot guide the students to build the best and more accurate representation of the cell. Among students, the most common cell representation, maybe the unique one, is that linked to the image of a 'fried egg'. These images can influence the school culture in this society. Under this assumption, this research aimed to investigate the cultural representations of the ?cells? among High School students. Therefore, this work is divided into three phases: exploratory step, data collection and data analysis. In the exploratory phase, the research was based and built over the studies about the theories of Cultural Studies, Representation and School Culture studies. To collect and analyze data, interviews were conducted with students in order to depict what students have about cell representation within their metal icon since they started the school process. Extra data were also collected: drawings and models developed by students based on the reading of three texts published in magazines. In this process, students first read the text and represented the cell through the design and models of cells; in the second text, they read, draw and also described the structures; and in the third text, students read, drew, described orally and created different models of the cell using playdough. The discussion about the interviews, the text analysis, the drawings, the reports and about the play dough reached the general objective of this thesis - to investigate the role of images of cells among high school students based on a cultural perspective. The final discussions of this study emphasized that the images in textbooks and the images used by teachers do not change the students' representation of the cell built through the years of the formal schooling.
