Intrigas & novelas : literatos e literatura em Curitiba na década de 1920

Abstract

Resumo: A atenção dos estudiosos da literatura paranaense concentrou-se em dois momentos distintos: os últimos anos do séc. XIX e início do XX, período do Movimento Simbolista e; os anos 40, quando surge a Revista Joaquim e o contista Dalton Trevisan. Este interesse, nos dois casos, se justifica pela existência de uma significativa produção literária e pela proeminência nacional alcançada pelos escritores paranaenses. Os períodos literários deixados de lado, por conseqüência, seriam de baixa qualidade e de pouco destaque. Desta forma foram criados dois mitos diferentes sobre os anos 20 c o modernismo no Paraná: o mito da 'ausência', que ignora ou diminui a manifestação literária existente, e o mito do "deslocamento", que reconhece apenas a produção dos autores que residiam no Rio de Janeiro, mais especificamente Tasso da Silveira e Andrade Muricy. Ao longo do trabalho apresentamos as polêmicas existentes entre os grupos que compunham o campo literário curitibano do período. Sobre um destes grupos, auto-intitulado 'Futurista' e depois 'Modernista', centralizamos nossa atenção, apresentando seus principais integrantes, suas relações, suas tentativas de alcançar a projeção nacional, seus empreendimentos e sua produção literária, que se encontrava em grande parte esquecida nas páginas dos jornais ou em alguns poucos livros que conseguiram editar. Entre as principais propostas deste grupo estava, principalmente, a renovação da arte paranaense, seguindo os preceitos estéticos inicialmente do futurismo italiano e, mais tarde, do modernismo brasileiro. O presente estudo, no entanto, não pretende avaliar o movimento a contribuição literária ou estética dos modernistas paranaenses, ou enaltecer a contribuição de algum de seus integrantes. O que se objetiva é romper com os mitos que incidem sobre a produção literária paranaense dos nos 20. Na verdade, no nosso entendimento, a maior contribuição deste estudo esta na descoberta de um 'bom humor curitibano', revelado na irreverência e ironia dos jovens futuristas. Abstract: The attention of those who have studied literature in Paraná has focused two distinctive moments: the last few years of the 19th and the early 20th Century, period of the Symbolist Movement and; the 1940's, when the literary magazine "Joaquim" came out by the hands of short story writer Dalton Trevisan. This interest is justified, in both cases by the existence of a meaningful literary production and by the nation wide repercussion reached by local writers. Literary periods left aside, by consequence, were of low quality and little notice. So, two different myths were created about the 1920's and Modernism in Paraná; the myth of "absence", which ignores or diminishes the existing literary expressions, and the myth of "displacement", which only recognizes the literary production of local authors living in Rio de Janeiro, in particular Tasso da Silveira and Andrade Muricy. In this text we present the debates among the groups which composed the literary field of Curitiba at the time. About one of these groups, selfnamed "Futurist" and later "Modernist", we focus our analysis, presenting its main participants, their relations, their attempts at reaching national recognition, their literary enterprises and production, which has largely being forgotten in the pages of contemporary newspapers or of the few books they managed to get published. Among the main proposals of this group was, in particular, the renewal of local art, according to the aesthetic principles embodied initially in the Italian Futurism and, later, in the Brazilian Modernism. This study, notwithstanding, does not intend to evaluate the literary or aesthetic contribution of local writers to the National movement, or to praise the contribution of any of its participants. The objective is to break apart the myths which fall upon the literary production in Paraná during the 1920's. In fact, as we understand it, the best possible contribution of this study is in the discovery of a local "good humor", shown in the irreverence and irony of young futurists.
