Professora Julia Wanderley, uma mulher-mito (1874 - 1918)

Abstract

Resumo: O presente trabalho de pesquisa tem como objetivo apresentar uma biografia histórica de Julia Wanderley, atrelada à reflexão sobre que memória foi constituída a seu respeito e quais representações foram construídas e alicerçadas sobre a mulher e a professora para forjar o mito Julia Wanderley. Esta personagem foi professora em Curitiba, reconhecida no Paraná como a primeira mulher a participar presencialmente do curso da Escola Normal na Capital do Estado. Atuando inicialmente como professora primária, logo após exercendo também a direção da escola, passando a ser, em meados dos anos 1914, também diretora de Grupo Escolar e na sequência diretora de Escola Intermediária e membro do Conselho Superior do Ensino Primário do Paraná. A partir do contexto sociopolítico e educacional do final de século XIX e início do XX, em Curitiba, como em outras cidades brasileiras, foi imperioso o ecrutamento de profissionais femininas para atender à difusão da educação entre uma população de origens e hábitos diversificados. Desta forma, nas primeiras décadas do século XX, o crescente número de mulheres professoras esteve intimamente relacionado à remodelação e difusão da escola primária. É neste contexto que se configura a pessoa de Julia Wanderley, transformada em modelo de educadora paranaense, inserida numa sociedade que desejava se constituir através do ideal de progresso e da ordem, com a pretensão de utilizar a escola pública primária, na conformação da professora, como instrumento modernizador. Nesta pesquisa foram utilizadas várias fontes, tanto primárias quanto secundárias, tais como: textos de emorialistas e biógrafos tradicionais, jornais, fotografias, impressos da época, documentos oficiais e relatórios escolares.

Abstract: The present research has the intention to present a historical biography of Julia Wanderley, as well as reflect upon the memory which was constituted in regards to her and the representations which were built and founded about the woman and the teacher to create the legend of Julia Wanderley. This persona was a teacher in Curitiba, recognized in Paraná for being the first woman to attend and participate in a Teacher Training Course in the State Capital. Initially, she worked as an elementary school teacher, soon after in the school administration and, around 1914, become a director of an elementary school, also a principal of a middle school and a member of the Primary School Superior Board of Council of Paraná. Following the sociopolitical and educational context of the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth, in Curitiba, as in other Brazilian cities, the hiring of female pr fessionals was imperious to attend to the spread of education between populations of diverse origins and habits. This way, in the first decades of the twentieth century the growing number of female teachers was intimately related to the renovation and spread of primary schools. It is in this context that the persona of Julia Wanderley configures itself, transformed into a model of a Paraná educator, placed into a society which wishes to establish itself through the ideals of progress and order, with the intention of using a public primary school, in the resignation of the teacher, as an instrument of modernization. In this research various sources were utilized, primary as well as secondary ones, such as: texts from memoirists and traditional biographers, ewspapers, photographs, printings from the time, official documents and school reports.
