Abstract
Abstract: In the maelstrom of post-modern days our eyes are continuously challenged by inexhaustible sources of visual and audiovisual messages. In our homes, the television as an indispensable item of household diffracts continuously spatial representations in a variety of scales to converge in the construction of our vision over the world. Where once the school, mainly embodied in the teaching of geography, fulfilled the function of a legitimate center authorized to define the layout of our spatial representations and our benchmarks for identification, today the means of mass communication are in charge of this function. Considering these issues, we propose in this work to reflect on the impact of media on the formation of geographical representations of young students and their correlation with the crisis of the school tuition, focusing on the television media. As a methodology of empirical research, we delimited our work in two phases: in the first phase we contemplate a universe of 300 students for purposes of generalization of behavior, in the second one we studied a group of 20 students in a priority qualitative research. Our analysis starts from the synthesis of these two scales.
