Palavras-chaves: Roma, História Militar, Bispo Abstract: It was the military tradition of the Roman Empire that made its expansion possible and sustained its power for a long period of time. Therefore, when its military power began to decrease, so did its territorial extension and its political importance over the Roman and Romanized world, though not as quickly. Many different circumstances can be held responsible for the fall of the western hold of the Roman Empire in the end of the 5th century. The decrease of troops and the diminished possibility of reaction of the Roman military forces to the crises that occurred between the end of the 4th and the middle of the 5th centuries are among the most important causes of the fall. Such crises were mainly the barbaric invasions of the western Roman territory, and can be read about from the writings of Idácio de Chaves, a Christian bishop from the province of Gallaecia, in the Iberian Peninsula. From such writings were taken some of the most relevant information about the key players of the Roman policies and military strategies to fight the political and territorial fragmentation of the western Roman Empire. Keywords: Rome, Military History, Bishop.
