João Gilberto Noll e o apelo prosaico
Abstract: This work is based on analyzing two novels by João Gilberto Noll: Hotel Atlântico (2004) e Harmada (1993). Such analyses are directed by the theorical support from Mikhail Bakhtin, at what touches the novelistic voice (prosaic) and the prosaic themes, in the broadest sense of the term that means the prosaic as cosmovision, in opposite to any ideal conception of the reality. Bakhtin basically contributed in two ways to this work: through the theories about carnival and its dethroning power, located on the book about Rabelais and other texts; through the theorization over the relations author-book and its hero, found in his novel theory and in other essays. These concepts are going to be helping us to detect, according to Bakhtin, two fundamental points in the novelistic analysis: the man who talks and his word. A word took granted about the novelistic hero is the one that says he’s an ideologist, his language always represents a particular point of view about the world, talking on Noll ‘s hero, we have possibly the shallowest worldvision of all. The relation with the other and with the world is made of a continuous prosaism. We understand this prosaism not only in its opposition to poetic speech, but as dethroning or simply relativisting to certain speeches occurred in novels, pretentiously finished, systematized, and/or idealizers. We aim to show, in this way, that in function of this prosaic representation (in all the instances) we have, exemplified in the selected novels, a succedaneum of images and actions owning a dethroning power that lived marginalized to officiality, since Antiquity. Such images are related to dramas of the low body material (sex, natural needs, excrescences etc.). Soon, this study sets itself as a detailed description of this prosaic appeal, in João Gilberto Noll, theorized by a pioneer on prosaic: Mikhail Bakhtin.
